Tango is not only a dance. It is a community of
people much like a church community.
In this program I read my own old and new observations on tango dancers
as a community and added quite a few very deep insights on community
organizing from Rick Warren, a founder of Saddleback Church in
California, the fastest growing church in US.
All Rick Warren's comments came from his book Purpose Driven Church,
which is a practical manual on community building of any kind, not only
faith-based.
This program is dedicated to the wonderful tango community in
Philly, where I was dancing my feet raw three days in a row in early
March, 2007 and to my kids who generously support me with my tango
endeavors.
Malcolm Gladwell - The Cellular Church How Rick Warren’s congregation
grew.
The initial inspiration beyond this show came from this article in
The New Yorker magazine.
Gladwell's writing is brilliant as usual.
If you want to read only two books on psychology/marketing/sociology, it should
be Tipping Point and Blink by Gladwell:
Rick Warren, Purpose Driven Church
The best hands-on manual on community organizing.
Rick Warren has his fair share of fans and detractors, but a lot of the
down-to-earth strategies and tactics from his church-building is worth a look
for community organizers of all stripes, not only tango.
